old new york city by tamino old new york city by tamino
I made this painting using a book that has lots of pictures from New York in the 1930s as reference.

I uploaded a much better picture of it and it is now available as a print in 5 different sizes :)

oil on texturized canvas - 40x60cm - 2001

Gorgeous. Reminds me of the posters from classic silent films. Which, in my book, is a Very Good Thing. :D

if you ever want to sell the original please let me know. My son Ben has the print (I'm framing it today for his new apartment). I KNOW that he would love to have the original.

is what you said what I think you said? That would be so great . . .I'll email you or "note" you.
A lot of things happening. I had an awesome summer. We had a huge b-day party for our 30 year old twins here at home. . .a garden party with catering and a tent. Actually, the pictures are up at flickr . . .we'll "talk" more.

This came out really well, neat! I was in NYC last week, it doesn't look exactly like that, the tops are squarer now, plus it's probably noisier :D

Great to see you were going for a noir feel. It really has it IMO (and I should know, I have to write an article about films noir next term plus it's one of my fave genres). I don't know much about art but this beautiful.

This is amazing work, I like how those white unpainted areas seem to form into hazes and the color of the water reflecting itself at the bottom

I love the ghostly feel this has. very... eerie. the street down the middle is an interesting touch. most people just do skylines. the street really pulls the eye deep into the image, which is strange since it's so flat and 2-dimensional. wish there were more shadows of buildings down that road though.

good job man!

the shades and hard edges are excellent in this. I can certainly see the art-deco nostalgia in it.

reminds me of georgia o keefe's paintings of the city, but without the light.
the patina of blue-green is a really nice touch!
